Bill Willis

Bill Willis, born December 16, 1931, began playing Bass professionally in 1955 with Billie Holliday in Buffalo, NY at the age of 23. Bill worked his way to Cincinnati, OH where he became the House/Studio Bassist at King Records, and recorded with legendary R&B artists The 5 Royales, Little Willie John, Hank Ballard & The Midniters, and Bill Doggett of Organ Fame. Bill also played Bass on Freddie Kings first three albums as well as on Hideaway.

With help and advice from Bill Doggett while at King Records, Bill Willis realized an additional talent and began playing B-3 with Bass built in to the lower part of the keyboard. Bill decided to take his talent to Los Angeles, and worked the Las Vegas circuit there as a lounge act for 27 years.

Bill then recorded and traveled with LaVerne Baker of Tweedlie Dee fame for two years off and on until her death.

After an appearance at Antones in Austin, TX, Bill joined Jimmie Vaughan as a member of the Tilt-A-Whirl Band, and for the past 6 years has appeared in concert and on CD's with Jimmie, providing both the rhythmic sounds of the Bass guitar and the sweet sounds of the B-3.
